Did you know that Durham is the fifth hottest housing market in all of the United States. This is huge considering over a decade ago downtown Durham had little to offer. The opening of the Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC) over ten years ago starting a revitalization that hasn’t stopped.
I (Ellen) moved from NYC six years ago and I was so worried about finding good food to eat. Once I arrived I realized that my worry was for nothing as Southern Living Magazine named Durham the “Foodiest Town in the South”. So, I thought I was share some of my favorite food spots in Durham with you.
The East Durham Pie Company serves more than delicious pies. They have the best twice baked croissants I have ever had. They also offer savory and sweet pastries and great coffees in a really cute setting.
In the mood for a burger? Durham will not disappoint with Burger Bach and Bull City Burger. Although in Chapel Hill, I can't omit Al’s Burger Shack. Al’s was named best burger in the country by TripAdvisor.
Mouth watering seafood can be found at The Saltbox. PBS recently featured this great place where you can get a fried oyster or shrimp sandwich or a fried bluefish plate. If you are lucky they will have crab grits on the menu.
Oysters are sourced locally and they are delicious at St. James Seafood. This is an upscale spot for that special evening out.
M Kokko has about 10 tables and the menu is written on a huge blackboard. The Korean fried chicken sandwich and the Ramon can’t be beat.
If you have room for dessert check out The Parlour where you will find the best home made ice cream.
And, finally, if you just want to sip cocktail and have an appetizer while watching one of our beautiful sunsets go to the roof of The Durham Hotel.
